his trumpet career by learning to play his Father's WWI trench Bugle at the age of 8 (his father was a 17 year

During junior and senior high school, he was 1 st chair trumpet. He was awarded two scholarships (Michigan
State University and Interlochen).
He played in two dance bands and went on to play summer jobs in various combos after high school and in college. In the Army
he played briefly with the 9th Div. band in Germany
before transferring to liason duty with the Adj.Gen.Corp. After college graduation he sold his horn and never played again
for 44 years. In 2001 he ook it up again, and after what he describes as “a
rough first year” , he is enjoying playing again and has found a home with
the Strummers.

Calvin
Wallace, M.D. - Tenor Sax and clarinet During his grammar school years Calvin studied piano and clarinet, and he stayed with the clarinet through high
school and into college years, but had to lay it aside when he began pre-med at the University of Tennessee and through his
medical school years. He dabbled with the ukulele some before his career as an anesthesiologist and sang for many years
in his church choir, but it wasn’t until he and his wife, Doris, retired to Marco Island that he found a clarinet at
a flea market and decided to go back to playing the clarinet. From that he expanded his interest to the tenor sax and
now has about six years experience playing with the Marco Island Strummers. He is a member of the Strummer board of directors.

Army Field Band out of Washington, DC.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army he formed his own big band (Don Fejfar and His Orchestra) while attending
the University of South Dakota.
After moving to Iowa he became involved in drum and bugle
corps work and then became director of the Iowa Falls High School Band. Now working
in the investment business, he still has time to direct yet another band, “Dow Jones and The Averages.”
The highlight of his musical career was attending the 60th anniversary of the
United States Army Field Band in August 2006 and playing a concert with the band at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
