Irwin “Jake” Jacobs - Tenor
Banjo Jake first started
taking banjo lessons in 1998 upon retirement from the computer industry. He says, "Finding a traditional jazz banjo teacher
who would give music lessons on Cape Cod was, by itself, no small accomplishment. But, I
was lucky and found an outstanding instructor in Al Orlando. I wanted to play a happy instrument, so the banjo was an obvious
choice. My goal was straightforward and simple; keep myself entertained, during retirement, by taking lessons and maybe playing
for the grandkids, if I could get them to listen. I saw an advertisement in one of the music magazines about a new band forming on Marco Island , The Marco Island Strummers.
For over a year I went to every band practice and occupied the back row. Eventually, I made my debut at the Town Center Mall
on Marco. Music has become my retirement mainstay and I’m so happy to play with this great group of people."
